Shockwave Therapy

Advanced Treatment for Foot Pain

If you have on-going heel, foot or tendon pain that has not responded well to conventional treatments, then Shockwave Therapy may help with your recovery.

We always aim to offer the most effective treatments as part of a comprehensive care plan for your unique situation. Where appropriate, Shockwave Therapy can be used to reduce long-term symptoms and promote healing.

What is Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave Therapy is a non-invasive, clinic-based treatment that uses focused sound waves to stimulate your body’s natural healing processes without the need for medication or surgical intervention.

The Modus ESWT system delivers a controlled pattern of acoustic waves to the painful area which encourages blood flow, breaks down scar tissue and stimulates regeneration.

How can Shockwave Therapy help you?

If you have a long-term condition and have tried other treatments such as exercise, orthotics or steroids without seeing much improvement, then shockwave therapy may help with your recovery.

Over a typical course of 3-6 weekly sessions many people begin to notice mobility improvements and reduction on pain after just a few treatments.

Common conditions that can benefit from Shockwave Therapy include:

  • Plantar fasciitis (persistent arch and heel pain)
  • Achilles tendinopathy (tendon and ankle pain)
  • Chronic soft tissue irritation
  • Other soft tissue overuse injuries

What to expect with Shockwave Therapy

You’ll have a detailed consultation to discuss your symptoms, review your overall health and make sure Shockwave is an appropriate part of your treatment plan.

We will explain exactly how we will deliver the treatment and book your sessions. If your Podiatrist thinks Shockwave would not be suitable for you, then we will recommend an alternative plan.

Each session lasts about 20 minutes. We will use conductive gel and the Shockwave applicator directly on the affected area.

Most patients experience some mild discomfort or tingling, but this is short-lived and you should be able to return to your normal activities right away.

Your podiatrist will give you a post treatment care plan.
