Foot Pain and Injury
We have podiatrists with expertise in Musculoskeletal Podiatry who can provide diagnosis, a treatment plan and rehabilitation exercises to allow you to return to your chosen activity/sport pain free.
Also sometimes referred to as sports podiatry or biomechanics, this branch of medicine looks at the lower limb when it is functioning well and when it is causing pain or preventing you from performing your chosen activity/sport, be it light walking or elite sports.
Steroid injection therapy
Steroid injections are sometimes used in this field of podiatric medicine to treat a wide range of musculoskeletal disorders. It is used to reduce inflammation, swelling and pain.
Orthotic therapy
Orthotics are often used within podiatry and can help manage painful foot conditions. We have many orthotics in clinic which can be tailored to meet your specific needs by your MSK clinician.
Routine Nail and Skincare
Regular treatment will help us ensure you maintain healthy, pain-free feet.
Nail and skin maintenance
Personal foot care involves regular nail cutting and skin maintenance and normally forms part of person’s personal hygiene routine.
For many reasons, you may feel that you are unable to continue with this undertaking anymore. This is where we can help.
Corns and Callus
Corns and calluses are both common foot conditions that form due to friction or pressure on the skin.
Problem Nails
Sometimes you can develop more problematic or painful conditions such as ingrown nails or fungal infections. We can quickly assess the problem and recommend the best course of treatment for you.
Nail Surgery
Occasionally, conservative treatments of ingrown nails do not provide sufficient relief. It may be appropriate to remove your nail or part of it. This minor surgery under local anaesthetic offers a permanent solution to this painful problem. The price of this package includes the surgery itself and all post surgery appointments and dressings.
Your podiatrist will decide your suitability for this procedure based on your medical history and their assessment at your routine podiatry appointment.
Clearanail Fungal Nail Treatment
This non invasive, painless fungal nail treatment provides an alternative to taking oral medication. Patients may notice improvements within weeks of the treatment. The fee includes enough spray application for 8 weeks. Severely infected nails may require a follow up treatment at additional cost.
This treatment is not suitable for all fungal nails or every patient.
Your podiatrist will decide your suitability for this procedure based on your medical history and their assessment at your routine podiatry appointment.
Children's Podiatry
Babies and young children
- complaining of tiredness or pain when walking
- their shoe wear looks unusual
- they appear to have flat feet/knock-knees or in-turned feet
- they are clumsy or trip often
Adolescent foot problems
Often due to an imbalance in the growth rate of bones and muscles, painful conditions can occur, especially in children and adolescents who are very sporty.
Diabetic Footcare
If you live with diabetes, you’re much more likely to develop problems with your feet. These problems can be serious and can cause ulcers or infections and for some people these problems could lead to amputations.
Screening and Assessment
Changes to the nerves and blood vessels supplying your feet can occur very gradually and you may not notice them. This is why it is essential that every year you have your feet screened and assessed by a podiatrist. You can then agree a treatment plan to suit your needs.
Verrucae
A verruca is a small, non-cancerous skin growth caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). Verrucae can appear flat or raised and generally have a rough surface. They are highly contagious and spread through direct contact or by touching surfaces that have come into contact with an infected person. Although they are usually harmless and self-resolve with no treatment, some people may experience discomfort or seek treatment for cosmetic reasons.
Common treatments include over-the-counter remedies, various acid therapies, cryotherapy (freezing), laser therapy, microwave therapy (Swift) or surgical removal. It is important to note that there are no verrucae treatments that 100% guarantee resolve.
Your podiatrist will discuss the treatment options available to you. Some are included in your appointment fee and others may have an additional cost.
Treatment with Verrutop®
The treatment involves reduction of the skin overlying the verruca(e) and the application of a painless topical solution of a nitrizinc complex of nitric acid, organic acids and Zn and Cu salts.
Return is required within 15 days and the patient is required to apply surgical spirit daily.
This treatment has been shown in trials to have a 72% success rate on verruca(e) on the soles of feet and 90% on the toes with 3-6 treatments.
Important Patient Information
New Patients
Your initial appointment takes slightly longer and is more expensive than subsequent appointments as the podiatrist needs to gather a full medical history so that they can treat you appropriately. It is essential that you include all your medical information, even though you may not think it is relevant to your treatment.
Cancellations
If you are unable to attend your appointment please give us as much notice as possible so that we can offer that space to other patients. A 50% missed-appointment fee will be incurred if less than 24 hours notice is given as it is unlikely that we will fill that appointment at short notice. Repeat occurrences will result in higher penalty fees being taken. Consideration will be given to patients with additional needs and learning disabilities where their condition has prevented them attending.
Treatment of Children (under the age of 16)
In Scotland, children have the right to healthcare and treatment and their views are considered when making decisions about their care.
By law, children under the age of 16 require to be accompanied by their parent (or someone who has been granted legal guardianship through the courts) in order for treatment to go ahead. If this is not possible then another delegated adult may accompany the patient if an Absence of Parental Consent Form has been completed and if the parent agrees to be available by phone during the scheduled treatment time.
Failure to meet these requirements would mean we would be unable, by law, to proceed with the child’s treatment.
Treatment of adults without their own right of consent
We would really like to treat your feet and to do this we need to comply with the Adults with Incapacity Act Scotland (2000). If you have been appointed a Welfare Guardian, they need to come with you to all your appointments. They also need to fill out some forms on your behalf. If they are not able to come to all your appointments and you may attend with your carer instead then we need a Section 47 certificate that states ‘podiatry treatment’. Your GP can give you this. It is important that we have these certificates otherwise we will not be able to treat you.
